Hills and Hollows Farm is owned and operated by husband and wife team, Guerrant and Janet Tredway. Guerrant (a retired electrical contractor) and Janet (a nurse) bought their first llama in 2006. After a few years of working with the animals and improving the farm and surrounding buildings, they opened their farm to the public in the spring of 2008.
Hills and Hollows Farm sits on a larger tract of land originally purchased by Tredway's parents in 1947. On that original farm, the elder Tredways operated a dairy farm and raised and sold quarter horses. Now, sixty years later, llamas are sharing the same pasture land!
The Tredways are also avid collectors. They have a large collection of farm memorabilia, tools, antiques, toys and much more. And it's all on display for visitors to the farm!
The llama is a New World camelid most often associated with the Incan Indians of South America. They are among the oldest domesticated animals in the world. Used primarily as a beast of burden, the llama would have also provided native herdsmen with meat, fiber for clothing, hides for shelter, and manure for fuel.
Today in the United States, llamas are most often considered to be pets and companions. They are highly social animals with a calm nature and high level of intelligence. This makes them the perfect animal for anyone, even children, to handle. They also make ideal pack animals, provide wool for various uses, and can even work as guard animals for other livestock.
The llamas of Hills and Hollows Farm are primarily our pets and companions! These friendly, fascinating animals are comfortable interacting with adults and children alike! They are also award-winning llamas and provide wonderful educational opportunities to the people of our community through special events.
